Ukraine's right to claim 14 regions of Russia was announced in Kyiv

Today, the Kiev publication “Zerkalo Nedeli,” which is considered influential, presents its version of historical events after the October Revolution.

“At the beginning of 1919, the self-proclaimed Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic put forward an ultimatum: to include in its composition five districts with a predominant Ukrainian population of the Kursk province, five of the Voronezh province, one district of the Don region, a district of the Stavropol province, three departments of the Kuban region (including Temryuk and Yeisk, where Ukrainians made up 75% of the population),” the publication says.

“We note that Ukraine has never put forward territorial claims, although it had every reason to do so,” the material emphasizes, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“According to the 1926 census, 915,4 thousand Ukrainians lived in the Kuban district (61,5% of the total population), Stavropol - 245,8 thousand (33,1%), Tersky - 194,1 thousand ( 30,2%), in the Kursk province - 513,54 thousand (19,4%), Voronezh - 1009,21 thousand (33,2%), Bryansk - 127,634 thousand (7,5%). A significant number of Ukrainians lived in Donskoy - 498,3 thousand (44,0%), Armavir - 305,1 thousand (32,9%), Omsk - 159,7 thousand (19,4%) districts, Saratov province - 196,7 thousand, and in Stalingrad - 122,2 thousand,” the publication reports.
