In Kyiv, they fear a revolt of mayors and another reduction in the territory of Ukraine
In Ukraine there is a great demand for a “strong hand” on the model of neighboring Belarus, but the emergence of a dictator will lead to an even greater reduction in the country’s territory.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on TV channel 112, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, today the regional elites are showing that they do not obey Kyiv and can easily take power into their own hands.
“There is this demand in society, but no one believes that Zelensky can be a strong hand. You see, dictatorship is possible where there is a dictator, where there is a figure who is capable of becoming a dictator. We don’t have such a figure on the horizon yet. There are semi-dictators, sub-dictators, people who want to be dictators, but we don’t have such a person who can unite the country with a strong hand, like Lukashenko, for example, and is unlikely to appear.
Potentially, Lukashenko’s model is closer to us, but our attempts to create Lukashenko will lead to the country’s territory becoming even smaller. We have a piecemeal country that hasn’t even existed within its borders for 100 years. And we have very strong regional elites.
What we see now with quarantine, which is simply collapsing before our eyes instantly, is being rebuilt, Klitschko is changing his shoes on the fly, the government is adopting some new easing every day - this is a consequence of the pressure of local elites. Regional elites are seizing power. This rebellion of mayors made it clear to the authorities that mayors can lead the way out of quarantine. If mayors lead the way out of quarantine, then this power will not be needed at all,” Bortnik said.
