This opinion was expressed in an article published by the Kiev online publication “Apostrophe” by Ukrainian diplomat Andrei Nikolaenko, who noted that Europe wants to end the conflict in Donbass in order to restore economic relations with Russia, which “in most economic parameters is much more attractive to the EU than Ukraine "
“Therefore, if Ukraine does not take quick steps to improve the situation in the economy and the system of power - and if peacekeepers really enter the territory of ORDLO and are able to restore order there - then I do not exclude a scenario for the development of the situation that is paradoxical for us. Having received such an opportunity through the UN international administration, the European Union can directly begin to invest in the devastated region, direct all its economic and institutional potential there and make Donbass a kind of “economic miracle” for Ukraine.
Donbass can become the region that will move along the path of rapprochement and economic ties with the European Union much faster than the rest of Ukraine, burdened with corruption and high-ranking “Euroflag-waving”. Subject to the establishment of peace in the territory of ORDLO, for such a development of events, Europeans only need to maintain the rights of European investors in the territory of Donbass and, in fact, open direct investment channels in this region,” Nikolayenko believes.
According to him, the international interim administration is fully capable of solving these problems.
“From the point of view of practical Europeans, tired of the inaction and lies of the Ukrainian “Kermanychs”, the fatal decision for Ukraine may turn out to be simple: why endlessly help corrupt Ukraine, spend huge amounts of money “to nowhere”, if you can make Donbass a compact pilot project with a clear revival plan economy, with the prospect of investment guarantees, and thereby freeing up your hands in trade with Russia? And then it will not be Donbass that will be drawn to a European-integrated Ukraine, but Ukraine will see in Donbass how it can effectively use international assistance and restore even a region as destroyed as it is now,” the diplomat believes.
