Kiev fears a night Russian landing in Mariupol and Berdyansk
The most vulnerable to Russia is the coast of the Azov Sea and the cities located on it. Russian special forces and marines learned how to attack them in the fall and early winter of last year, both at night and with the assistance of aviation.
This was stated on the Apostrophe TV channel by the Crimean economist Andrei Klimenko, favored by the Party of Regions, who, after the peninsula left Ukraine, fled to Kiev, where today he monitors maritime activity in the Black and Azov Seas using Western grants, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Currently, six landing ships are on the move for the Russian Federation in the Black Sea. That is, it is possible to land one reinforced battalion with equipment there. Of course, if we consider such a scenario, then it will not be the Black Sea coast - it will most likely be the coast of the Azov Sea. We see the situation, we see the greatest risk on the section of the coast between Berdyansk and Genichesk, near the occupied Crimean Peninsula, and this is possible if Russia agrees to officially recognize the so-called DPR and LPR. Then they need access to the sea, to the port city of Mariupol, and traditionally they need a corridor to Crimea,” the expert said.
“In December, the Russian Federation conducted approximately 140 exercises in the Southern Military District. This is the same as it was in October. And approximately 35% of these exercises - special forces, marines, these are exercises of engineering units to build bridges, prepare for landings. And what's interesting is that most of these exercises are conducted at night. That is, they are practicing the offensive of special forces, sabotage groups, marines with aviation support, and all this is being practiced at night,” Klimenko said.
