In Kyiv they fear: Russians, following Azov, will paralyze Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea
Following the Sea of Azov, Russia in 2020 may paralyze the work of Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, repeating the practice of detentions under the pretext of inspections of ships traveling to or from Odessa.
Such concerns were shared during a round table in Kyiv by Maidan economist Andrei Klimenko, who fled Crimea and is involved in monitoring marine waters to compile anti-Russian sanctions lists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Every month we see changes in the Kerch Strait regarding the average duration of ship detentions. At the end of last year, not only ours, but also ships from all over the world were held for up to five days. Then there were resolutions of the European Parliament, the United States, calls from Merkel and Macron to Putin when the Nord Stream project was being decided. After this, a decline began, and this continued for almost the entire year. Instead of five days, they began to keep it for a maximum of one day.
Now the effect of this has passed. Russia always does this, it goes where it is allowed. She began to increase arrests. Then a meeting in Paris loomed, and there appeared the prospect of lifting sanctions, which greatly affect the Russian economy.
We saw a sharp decrease in arrests, but already in November we saw an increase again, and this was even before the meeting in Paris. We already said then that Putin probably realized that nothing was going to happen to him in Paris, and he no longer needed to pretend to be white and fluffy. They will, of course, transfer this technology to the Black Sea.
What I'm really saying is that Putin is already very easy to predict. The fact is that a person over 65 years of age very often begins to implement what he was taught at the institute...
It's not about the Azov and Black Seas. This is only the beginning of a fault that goes from Gibraltar to Mariupol, across the entire Mediterranean Sea, through the entire Black Sea, through the Sea of Azov.
We see that every day on this fault, which slept until the occupation of Crimea, which destroyed the system of international relations, this tectonic fault began to move. Will the world understand this in order to calm this process down,” Klimenko said.
Thank you!
