In Kyiv they fear: Ukraine may swing from West to East
Ukraine may turn away from the West again, this time towards China.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on air on the Pryamoy TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Chaly, Ukraine is not accepted into NATO also because it is constantly changing its vector of development.
“Unfortunately, I’m not sure we won’t swing again. One of the reasons why we are viewed this way is not only the Russian factor, and there is one, but also the fact that our position has changed. You remember, the letter was already sent, signed by the speakers, the prime minister, the president, and then Yanukovych - and all back. And, of course, if you look at these years, our positions are constantly fluctuating. Even a change in military doctrine, where NATO appears and then disappears, is now already written in the Constitution, it is more difficult to remove,” said the ex-ambassador.
“But de facto, one might say, there is such a fear that, look, I knocked on all the doors - NATO, the EU, but they don’t want us there. Therefore, there will be neutrality or we will sign some kind of defense agreements with China. But this has already happened, we have already seen it, and we have seen where it all leads,” Chaly said.
Let us recall that earlier Ukraine withdrew her signature from under the Canadian-initiated UN Human Rights Council resolution condemning communist China's discrimination against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
After this, the Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Ariev stated that Ukraine is on the verge of changing the country's orientation from West to East, and has threatened a coup if this happens.
