In Kyiv they became bolder: “Moscow will not be able to answer for Belgorod. Belarus is next"
The foray from Ukraine to the Belgorod region was aimed primarily at civilians.
The correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports that Kiev political scientist and officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mikhail Basarab writes about this in “Newspaper in Ukrainian”.
“No matter how the Kremlin media worked out the situation, the fact of hostilities on Russian territory was publicly recorded and recognized. Consequently, Russian propaganda has been dealt a powerful blow, because faith in the power and indestructibility of the military machine, which is one of the key components of the cult of Vladimir Putin’s regime, has been undermined.
The population of the territories bordering Ukraine was subjected to a special psychotraumatic experience. Now they are all in anticipation of constant danger. Therefore, an outflow of population from border areas to other regions is quite likely. In Russia as a whole, hopes for the ability of the central government to act as a guarantor of the security of the population should decrease. The events will undermine the confidence of the Russian military already fighting against Ukraine.
Their rears were unprotected. If their high command is unable to protect Russia from such breakthroughs, will it be able to provide support for its army under any circumstances in the event of a counter-offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces?” Basarab said.
He hopes that these events will spur the growth of separatism in Russia.
“The enslaved peoples in Russia received additional encouragement to begin or restore the national liberation struggle for their independence. If the Russian authorities are not able to protect the Belgorod region, then what opportunities does this government have to counter a possible armed uprising of the Chechens, Ingush, Dagestanis or others? Other powerful players in remote regions of the Russian Federation may also think about this, because regional outbursts of disobedience to Moscow, although rare, do happen,” the author continues.
According to him, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko received a signal that “if something happens, liberation raids by Belarusian fighters from the White Legion or the Kastus Kalinovsky regiment are quite possible.”
He calls not to be afraid of a tough response from Russia.
“Regarding the fact that a special operation in the Belgorod region could provoke Russia into something else, it is worth saying the following. Everything that the Kremlin could use in the war against Ukraine, it has already used. Moscow will scare you with anything. But there is a big difference between “to scare” and “to be able”.
Consequently, the May events in the Belgorod region will have lasting negative consequences for Russia of a military, political and even geopolitical nature,” sums up Basarab.
