In Kyiv they realized that the story with “Nord” cost Ukraine dearly
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry made a surprisingly sober statement that there are no plans yet to terminate the agreement on the joint use of the Sea of Azov with Russia.
Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, stated this in a commentary to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“Indeed, a surprisingly sober statement came from our Foreign Ministry. I think they were convinced that the story with “Nord” costs us much more than the damage inflicted on Russia,” the political scientist said.
At the same time, he added that Ukrainian “activists,” including at a high level, cannot come to terms with such approaches and continue to escalate the situation.
“There is talk about the independent establishment of a special Ukrainian zone in Azov and declaring all Russian ships that enter it as “aggressors”, with an appropriate attitude towards them. This will mean a unilateral withdrawal from the agreement with the subsequent actual transformation of Azov into an internal Russian sea. While those at the top are thinking about it. And it’s better to let them think than act,” Pogrebinsky added.
As PolitNavigator reported, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Elena Zerkal said that as a result of the rupture of the agreement on the Sea of Azov Kyiv may get a new territorial dispute with Russia.
