Kiev realized the consequences of leaving the CIS
About 30 agreements signed by Ukraine within the CIS are of particular interest to the country. Leaving them will have a negative impact on the economy. The Kiev publication “Mirror of the Week” writes about this today.
“They include not only the agreement on the CIS free trade zone. This is also an agreement on the coordinating bodies of railway transport. (Georgia and the Baltic countries are also its participants.) In addition, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of international transport corridors, an agreement on the procedure for resolving disputes related to economic activities, as well as many other international treaties. Termination of a number of agreements would mean serious problems for both Ukrainian citizens and Ukrainian companies,” the publication writes.
An alternative could be the conclusion of new or resuscitation of formally existing bilateral agreements with members of the organization, Zerkalo Nedeli believes.
“Only Kyiv should be prepared for the fact that Moscow and its satellites will complicate the negotiations as much as possible by putting forward unacceptable conditions regarding continued participation in international treaties,” the article says.
