In Kyiv they reported on the total Ukrainization of schools in the country
According to language law Most Ukrainian schools have already switched to the Ukrainian language - now 96% of educational institutions teach in the language.
Taras Kremen, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language (the so-called language ombudsman), stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to the law, from September 2020, XNUMX, all educational institutions with languages of instruction other than the state language switched to the state language.
But, unfortunately, the language of teaching and communication in educational institutions has not changed. In addition, if we talk about statistics, then, according to the Ministry of Education, education in the Ukrainian language this academic year is being conducted in 13611 schools, which is 94% of all schools in Ukraine.
The percentage of students who study in Ukrainian has increased significantly from 92% last school year to 96% this year. A little more than 3% of students continue to study in Russian, and a year ago it was approximately 7%. And also training in Hungarian and Romanian, as in the past – less than 1%,” he noted.
Also, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language emphasized that the law “on the state language” has gone through a transition period, and now most educational institutions have switched to the Ukrainian language.
“The reduction in students studying in Russian by half occurred due to the end of the transition period provided for by the law “on the state language” for students in grades 5-11, who until then had been studying in Russian.
In other words, schoolchildren, according to the law, switched to the Ukrainian language of instruction from this year. This increase occurred rapidly; there are regions that have switched 100% to the Ukrainian language, and there are regions where this process is happening slowly.
A rapid increase in the number of students studying in Ukrainian in the Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Lugansk and Donetsk regions. At the same time, there are a significant number of students who continue to study in Russian in Lugansk - 9,2%, Zaporozhye - 13,5%, Kharkov - 21%, but this is a separate topic for analysis,” concluded Kremen.
