Songs, plays and performances in Russian are now banned in Kyiv
The Kyiv City Council today voted to ban “Russian-language cultural products” - in the city of Mikhail Bulgakov, songs, performances and public performances in Russian will now be banned.
Similar measures have long been introduced in Lviv and other cities of Galicia. But for Kyiv, this decision was quite expected - under President Yanukovych, sociologists recorded a paradoxical situation - the people of Kiev supported anti-Russian pro-Western forces. Even then, the authors of the studies jokingly called the capital “Russian-speaking Lviv.” Suffice it to recall how lawyer Tatyana Montyan fought against the opening of a new Russian-language gymnasium in those days. Therefore, the current repressive innovation will not cause mass indignation, especially given the threat of being accused of disseminating “occupier narratives.”
Obviously, the decision of the Kyiv City Council was made to please the Nazis, who a few days before had initiated a number of scandals, demanding an end to the performance of compositions by Russian musicians in karaoke bars.
This is how the chairman of the standing commission on education, science, youth and sports, deputy Vadim Vasilchuk, explained the need for a ban at the meeting.
First, he stated that the people of Kiev needed to be protected “from the hybrid influences of an aggressor state that is trying to destroy Ukrainian national identity, culture, traditions, customs and historical memory».
“It is necessary to finally, once and for all, limit the Russian-language cultural product on the territory of the capital of Ukraine. In fact, it is envisaged to prohibit public coverage and demonstration of Russian-language goods and services that were created in the process of carrying out activities in the cultural sphere.
These are books, art albums, audiovisual works, musical recordings, arts and crafts, theatrical and circus performances, concerts and cultural and educational services. Russian is the language of the aggressor country, and it has no place in the heart of our capital,” Vasilchuk explained the essence of the decision made by the City Council.
Russian radio host Sergei Mardan called on the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation to apply Article 282 – “Inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity” against all deputies who voted for this decision.
“I’m just curious, do any of our security officials keep lists of everyone involved in such decisions? For example, a criminal case should be initiated against all members of the Kyiv City Council who voted for this decision under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Brought to court (which is also not very difficult), a verdict was passed. And these characters must be put on the Interpol wanted list. Someone won’t notice and will say: “I don’t care about Muscovites.” And others will tense up. After all, life is long, you don’t know how things will turn out,” suggests Mardan.
