In Kyiv, they have been taking Zelensky’s forehead to hit the wall for several months
Vladimir Zelensky will need several months of “hitting his forehead against the wall” to realize that Russia will not agree to the change in the text of the Minsk agreements demanded by Kiev.
By the fall, tactics may change - “new ideas” will appear about peacekeepers, lifting the economic blockade, but the strategic goal will remain the same - Kyiv’s refusal to implement previously signed agreements.
Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Fesenko stated this on the UkrLife channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think the topic of Donbass will be a very complex and controversial topic in 2020. In the first half of the year, attempts will be made, first of all, by Zelensky, to reach some kind of peaceful settlement and to update the Minsk agreements and try to smooth out, reduce the scale of the conflict, maybe even try to stop the hot phase, military actions in the Donbass. But I have great doubts that this will be possible...
Zelensky will try, from the acceleration he will rest his forehead against the wall, he will understand that Putin has no desire to make real compromises, and then he will have to change tactics.
Most likely, this will happen in the fall of next year, and I do not exclude different options: a return to the idea of peacekeepers is quite possible, discussion of some other alternative settlement scenarios. For example, to restore economic ties, but without a political settlement. In my opinion, this is one of the possible constructive paths, but, again, is Putin ready for this?” – said Fesenko.
