Maria Yakovleva, a member of the board of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, stated this today on the air of the Ukrainian Channel Five.
“This is enough to start the heating season, but only for the beginning. What's next? We know about the contract for American coal - a million tons, the contract with South Africa - a million tons. And we use about 15 million tons of anthracite during the heating season. Question: where will we get the rest? Last year it was uncontrolled territories and Russia. As of today, there is no answer,” Yakovleva said.
According to her, a shortage of coal, which is the main energy source for electricity production, is fraught with rolling blackouts and an increase in the price of electricity.
“If you need to turn on the heating tomorrow, they will turn it on. We will get through October, but November, December... We will have rolling blackouts or direct purchases of electricity from Russia,” Yakovleva said.
Last year, 92% of coal came from Donbass at a price of 600 UAH per ton, and the cost of electricity included a price of 2 thousand UAH per ton.
