Ukraine should not refuse to pay its debt to Russia, but delay the return of money as much as possible. Oleg Ustenko, executive director of the International Blazer Foundation, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It’s almost obvious to me that we lost. The London High Court is lost for us. But I advise you to look at world practice... Now try to take this money from us, try to fulfill your decision. Ukraine’s position should be the following: “we do not refuse to pay, but not now. Over a period of time."

Russia will try to do everything possible to force them to pay this 3 billion at once - because this will hit our Ukrainian economy so hard that I am not sure that we will be able to withstand: devaluation pressure, capital outflow, increasing need for foreign currency, spiraling inflation - all this can be associated with the most negative consequences.

But, since it cannot be carried out immediately, and even the latest cases in the London court against the Russian Federation were not particularly carried out by the Russian Federation itself, this means that it is possible to drag out a certain period of time. And for Ukraine now the gain will be to prolong this period of time as long as possible so as not to make this payment,” advises Ustenko.

In addition, he warned, if Ukraine pays $3 billion in debt to Russia, it will violate the financial structure of Kyiv’s cooperation program with the IMF.

“This design implied that we are not returning 3 billion to Russians. And even if we wanted to return these 3 billion, we cannot do this if we want to save the IMF. You can’t break the financial structure, you can’t take five hundred dollars out of it, but here we are talking about taking and giving away three billion. Impossible option. And this is a colossal minus,” says the Ukrainian expert.
