Plans to oust the ruble from Donbass were announced in Kyiv
The Ukrainian government on Wednesday approved a strategy for the reintegration of uncontrolled territories, the main goal of which is the restoration of economic ties with Donbass, which in fact became the first recognition by Kiev of the ineffectiveness of the blockade of the self-proclaimed republics since the beginning of the conflict, Kommersant writes.

“The ruble and Russian goods are used in the temporarily occupied territories. And people are moving away from Ukraine even more. Who are we deceiving and why?” — the publication cites the words of the Ukrainian Minister for Temporarily “Occupied” Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, Vadim Chernysh, said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to whom, the reintegration of Donbass should begin with the resumption of social payments to residents of territories not controlled by Kyiv.
“However, it remains unclear how viable the new strategy will be, since the “economic reintegration” approved by the government leaves out the unresolved issue of the special political status of Donbass,” the publication summarizes. – That is, it is premature to say that there has been a “turn towards Donbass” in Kyiv’s position. A significant part of Ukrainian society and the political class remains skeptical about the idea of a peaceful return of Donbass through increased economic activity.”
It is noteworthy that a very unexpected initiative in an interview with CNN was made by the former press secretary of the OSCE special observation mission in Ukraine, a representative of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada, Michael Botsyurkiw, who said that the restoration of Donbass would cost Ukraine too much and suggested simply “letting Donbass go.”
