Panic in Kyiv: Ukraine is not ready for a cyber attack from Russia
Ukraine is absolutely defenseless in cyber terms, since access to critical infrastructure facilities and personal data of citizens is completely open.
Cybersecurity expert Andrei Perevezy stated this during the press conference “The second anniversary of the NotPetya cyber attack,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our country is in a state of cyber war - we are at war with the Russian Federation. Today I am not ready to guarantee that something will not go wrong in someone’s head, and a cyber attack will not begin on our infrastructure, on our critical infrastructure facilities.
And today, as our research has shown, critical infrastructure facilities are not only unprotected - they are in the public domain. In the same way, the personal data of our citizens is publicly available. And personal data, such as passport series and number, indication code, place of residence, even personal phone number. And this data is simply on the Internet, you don’t need to search for it,” the expert said.
In his opinion, today Ukraine is completely unprepared for a NotPetya-level cyber attack.
“When NotPetya happened 2 years ago, Ukraine remembered that it had cybersecurity. Conversations began at the business and government levels, and the development of the industry began. A year passed, everything began to fade.
Perhaps ten percent less than it was from “NotPetya”, Ukraine today is not ready for a repeat cyber attack at the “NoyPetya” level, because, as an example, over the past week only I know of five specific campaigns in which data was encrypted. The algorithm for encrypting data and spreading the virus was the same as that of “NotPetya,” the expert added.
