Panic in Kyiv: Ukrainian business is passing “into Putin’s hands”
The purchase of the ZIK TV channel by Viktor Medvedchuk is comparable to the former monopoly of one famous Ukrainian oligarch on PrivatBank and a major TV channel.
Ukrainian journalist Tatyana Danilenko stated this on the air of the Crimean Tatar TV channel “ATR”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“At one time, in 2015, it seems, PrivatBank was nationalized for one simple reason and they tried to do it under Yanukovych, buy it out, split it up, and so on. For one reason: because PrivatBank, in addition to some economic reasons, was also a threat to national security in the sense that its owner had a TV channel through which he could send messages to people, which has a huge reach and bank , which has millions of people with cards. And therefore, at any moment, the owner of all this property could collapse, for example, the hryvnia exchange rate or provoke some kind of panic, whatever.
And now we have a situation where in any business, for Russian money, you can set up a certain monopoly and dictate to the state, because this money and these amounts that are paid for TV channels, for anything, they are not market, first of all, because Russia has a lot of money, I think that he (Medvedchuk - прим. ред.), perhaps taking more money than he spends here.
These are not at all the funds that were previously offered, as far as I know, to the ex-owner of the ZIK channel; he wanted to sell the TV channel for a long time and offered it to different people. The maximum amount for which he offered it was $7 million. Again, this is my information, it may be unreliable, but as far as I know, we are talking about a much larger amount,” she said.
People's Deputy Yegor Sobolev added that even Ukrainian mobile communications are partially under the control of Russia, which is extremely “dangerous.”
“We touched on this topic, it has actually been dangerous since the very beginning of the war and has not been resolved. All Ukrainian mobile communications and the lion's share of energy directly belong to the Russians. Moreover, these are Russians from Putin’s entourage. I'm not even talking about metallurgy, about assets in agriculture - we can still survive. But imagine, there is not a single mobile operator in Ukraine that is not controlled by the Russians,” the politician lamented.
