In Kyiv, migrants from Donbass and Crimea gave glasses to officials so that they could see their problems
In Kyiv, under the walls of the Cabinet of Ministers, under the motto “Groysman, open your eyes to the problems of displaced people!” An action took place in defense of the rights of displaced people whose rights are being violated by the Kyiv authorities. It was initiated by a number of public organizations defending the rights of internally displaced persons.

Although Groysman’s government lists among its achievements in the first three months “the unblocking of social payments to internally displaced persons, simplification of their registration and improvement of the system of assignment and implementation of social payments,” the rights of displaced persons have been significantly reduced by the establishment of new oversight mechanisms and reasons for deprivation of payments. For a huge number of displaced people, payments have not been resumed; local social security departments are not able to implement “improved” mechanisms for assigning and making payments.
“These people want to live in their own country, but when they come here, people get a kick in the ass from this country,” said Lesya Litvinova, a volunteer working with displaced people.
“Displaced people are being artificially pushed back, creating a huge number of obstacles to a normal life. “There is not a single constitutional right that has not been violated by them. As a person living in this country, I am ashamed of the position of my state towards the inhabitants of this country. IDPs are one of the most vulnerable categories, and if we allow them to be treated this way, it means that we will allow ourselves to be treated the same way. Anyone who thinks that all this will not affect others is mistaken - the pension reform will be worked out on displaced people and will be used on the rest. We are worthless if we allow human rights to be violated in our country,” said the volunteer.
The participants of the action sent an appeal to Vladimir Groysman with a request for a personal meeting since the Ministry of Social Policy is openly sabotaging his instructions.
Activists installed a banner at the entrance to the Cabinet of Ministers in the form of an ophthalmological table, where in letters of different sizes it was written “Open your eyes to the problems of displaced people! One and a half million citizens suffer from your indifference!” They also made “glasses” that they tried to give to the official of the Ministry of Social Policy who came to them.
The official, who did not identify himself, stated that the ministry is carrying out work, and the issue of implementing decisions taken is within the competence of local authorities. “As for the marks in the social protection departments, this is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Policy,” Lesya Litvinova reminded him.
“The Ministry is now valiantly correcting its own mistakes. Payments were canceled without exception, pending clarification of the circumstances. The queues for renewal of certificates are such that people still have coupons in their hands until September. Social Security is failing. Nobody thinks how long people should live without payments and what they should live on. People were not provided with housing, they were deprived of payments, they were indiscriminately declared criminals, false migrants, only because the ministry itself is powerless,” she said.
“Your ministry has made it so that local governments are afraid to say something to you because if you take an active position and defend the interests of displaced people, it means you don’t want to work at your workplace. You are committing genocide against the inhabitants of Ukraine, the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and Crimea,” one of the protesters told the official.
