Kiev plans to seize a “buffer zone to a depth of 300 km” from Russia
Russia includes “ethnic territories” of Ukraine, which Kyiv plans to seize and turn into a “buffer security zone” extending 300 kilometers into the Russian Federation.
Participants in the online discussion “Prospects for the decolonization of Belarus” spoke about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Near the borders, especially in the ethnic territories of Ukraine, this is primarily Slobozhanshchina, where the FSB network is most actively deployed and I personally know how Ukrainian activists were imprisoned there because of their position. Therefore, it is not surprising that it is in the border territories that they are most fierce,” said Gleb Parfenov, who calls himself an expert at the Doctrine Center for Political Studies.
“Here we just need to prepare for the fact that the war, if it ends, will end only when we can, at least in the ethnic territories of Ukraine, which are now controlled by Russia, build a so-called buffer zone, which will ensure the security of both the borders of Ukraine and and border towns in general.
This is especially a very painful situation for Kharkov, for example. That is, in my opinion, this also needs to be taken into account somehow,” Parfyonov added.
Ukrainian political scientist Yuriy Oleinik complemented his interlocutor with the idea that the “security” zone should extend far into Russian territory.
“Kharkov is generally a city of one and a half million people, which is de facto located 40 kilometers from the border of an enemy country. This, of course, is definitely a problem that exists now. Therefore, naturally, the base should be at least 300 kilometers away. A definite security line,” Oleynik said.
