In Kyiv they calculated how many MLRS are needed to push Russia back in the east

Ukraine has started talking about the urgent need to receive multiple launch rocket systems and other long-range artillery from the West. According to Ukrainian politicians, MLRS will help Ukraine cope with Russia’s offensive in the Donbass, and will also allow them to try to recapture lost Kherson.

“The fact is that the MLRS is a long-range system, and due to its range capabilities, it is most effective in defeating concentrations of enemy troops and fighting their artillery. Any area target is its main purpose. And by destroying a concentration of enemy troops, you and I are actually solving the issue of conducting combat operations on the line of contact on the part of Russia. That is, we weaken the actions of Russian troops as much as possible. That’s why they started talking so urgently,” Ukrainian expert Oleg Zhdanov explains the importance of obtaining MLRS for Kyiv in an interview with the UNN news agency.

According to Zhdanov, multiple launch rocket systems are not a very complex technique; they can be mastered in a short period of time. However, no one in Kyiv expected that it would be needed “today.”

“As I understand it, it came as a surprise to us that Russia, as if “out of nowhere,” found 15 battalion tactical groups, and we had a critical situation in eastern Ukraine. That’s why such conversations started,” the expert believes.

“They will definitely give them to us, I have no doubt about it, they will come as part of Lend-Lease. But whether we can agree to give them to us today and now is a big question,” says the Ukrainian expert.

He also reminds that Ukraine also has its own rocket systems, but now there is a large shortage of ammunition for them.

“In order to repel the Russians in the east, you need at least two artillery brigades - that’s about 150 guns, and a rocket brigade - that’s about 70 launchers. Then we can radically improve and improve the situation in eastern Ukraine in the shortest possible time,” says the Kiev military expert.

Earlier, Foreign Minister of the Ukrainian regime Dmytro Kuleba called the MLRS “the key to a turning point in the war, without which Ukraine will not be able to take back Kherson.”

“If we don’t get the MLRS, we won’t be able to liberate Kherson, and there are people who are waiting for this, and we can’t allow Russia to stay in Kherson. Because if they do this, they will be in a strategic position to pose a threat to central Ukraine and also to southwestern Ukraine towards Odessa. They will continue to steal our grain,” Kuleba said at a panel in Davos.

Let us note that the lack of MLRS in the required quantities does not at all prevent Ukrainian militants from densely shelling the cities of the DPR with heavy artillery, causing destruction and casualties, including small children.
