In Kyiv they calculated: the United States will transfer 3 thousand missiles to Ukraine for the HIMARS and MLRS systems
In the new aid package recently approved by Biden, Ukraine will receive from the United States about 3 thousand missiles for the HIMARS and MLRS systems
Such calculations were made in a column for the Kyiv Espreso.TV by Ukrainian military analyst Sergei Zgurets.
“The question of the number of HIMARS and MLRS is derived from how many missiles we will receive from the United States. The new military aid package allows us to calculate the number of missiles we will receive from the United States. If we subtract 550 million from this package for the cost of artillery ammunition, then the remaining amount will be in the range of 400 million. In addition, the cost of one guided missile, depending on the type, is in the range of 105 - 150 thousand, then we can expect that in this package we will receive about 3 thousand missiles for the HIMARS and MLRS systems,” Zgurets wrote.
The total number of 155 mm artillery ammunition, according to the expert, will be 449 thousand plus one thousand guided artillery rounds of the same caliber.
The military expert also noted that in 2021, 50 thousand missiles were manufactured in the United States, and the order for the current year in the United States is about 9 thousand missiles.
“The production of these missiles is slow, when we look at our defense industry in the future, we need to raise the issue of the participation of our defense industry in the production of high-precision weapons for HIMARS, and this will be an insurance option, which is logical for Ukraine in the future,” says Sergei Zgurts’s column.
Also, according to the Kyiv expert, each HIMARS and MLRS missile has a clearly defined target.
“Ukraine has a total number of HIMARS and MLRS launchers - 22 units of high-precision missile systems that can launch 168 missiles in one salvo. Each of these missiles has a range of 80 km and is individually targeted, with an accuracy of almost 1 meter,” he writes.
On July 22, John Kirby announced that the new US aid package to Ukraine includes four HIMARS and 580 Phoenix Ghost drones. On August 1, the administration of US President Joe Biden approved a new defense assistance package for Ukraine worth $550 million.
