It is reported that Ukraine has been actively participating in UN peacekeeping missions for 25 years. Currently, 448 Ukrainian peacekeepers are involved in nine United Nations peacekeeping operations - from Transnistria to African countries. In total, since 1992, 42 thousand Ukrainian military personnel have served as part of UN peacekeeping contingents, 54 Ukrainians of whom have died.
At the same time, official Kyiv stated that it does not support the idea of deploying UN peacekeepers to the demarcation line in Donbass.
“The draft resolution that the Russian Federation submitted to the Security Council was not supported by anyone. Secondly, I have already spoken to many of my friends and colleagues in the EU. Met with the current OSCE Chairman, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz. I think my colleagues understand perfectly well what this Russian “initiative” is aimed at,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin.
