There is a holiday in Kyiv: the United States wants to give the Ukrainian Navy two decommissioned frigates
The commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Admiral Voronchenko, confirmed that Ukraine has received from the United States an offer to transfer two frigates of the Oliver Hazard Perry class, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He announced this on Channel 5, in an interview on board the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy, frigate Hetman Sagaidachny.
“Yes, indeed, we received a proposal to transfer two units of the Oliver Perry class frigate, those that were withdrawn from the US Navy in 2013-2015,” Voronchenko said.
“We need them, but this type of ship is needed for the future. And now we are carefully studying all these proposals. We directly calculate how we will accept them, in what condition, what is needed for this, how much they will cost. The annual operation of this type of frigate, taking into account the wages of the crew and its repairs, costs approximately 25 million US dollars. If we take global experience, the cost of a ship itself is 30% of its total operating time. 60-70% is maintenance, modernization and disposal,” added the Ukrainian admiral.
Earlier, the US leadership sent a letter to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense about providing military-technical assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the Navy.
Also, earlier, the commander of the Ukrainian Navy noted that the Island-class patrol boats received from the United States should arrive in Ukraine approximately in September 2019.
