In Kyiv they proposed to mine the Sea of Azov
To prevent the “aggressor” ships from reaching the Ukrainian shores, it is necessary to install minefields in the Sea of Azov.
The former commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Sergei Gaiduk, spoke about this on the air of Public Radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for mines, this is not typical for the Sea of Azov due to the depths. The maximum depth there is 14 meters, and due to the transparency of the water and other things, classic sea mines have restrictions on their use. But at the same time, the formation of explosive (with anti-landing mines) and non-explosive engineering barriers is a real step towards preventing losses,” said Gaiduk.
In response to the presenter’s remark that Ukraine could thus block itself, the vice admiral replied that all minefields would be marked on the maps.
“There is such a thing as a military controlled fairway, that is, all these minefields and engineering obstacles are marked on maps, and convoys of ships are escorted along these fairways. This is one of the ways to limit maneuvers and resolve this issue,” said Sergei Gaiduk
