In Kyiv, a former ATO militant was detained while trying to sell weapons and ammunition.
In Obolon in Kyiv, a man was detained while selling weapons and ammunition brought from the zone of the so-called “Joint Forces Operation” (formerly “ATO”), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Kyiv police communications department.
“The pre-trial investigation continues, preparations are being made to present the detainee with a report of suspicion of committing a crime, which is punishable by up to 7 years in prison. Also, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention will be decided in the near future,” said the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police, police general of the third rank Andrei Krischenko.
The Kyiv police, together with employees of the SBU, under the procedural guidance of the city prosecutor's office No. 5, exposed the attacker in the sale of a Kalashnikov assault rifle, grenade launchers, submachine guns and ammunition for them. The seized items were sent for examination, and the offender was taken to the police department for further investigative actions.
As part of the “Arms and Explosives” operation, law enforcement officers received operational information regarding a person in the Obolonsky district who was planning to sell firearms. Investigators of the territorial police department opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
During the pre-trial investigation, the police, together with representatives of the SBU, established the personal details of the person and took appropriate measures to detain him. The man was exposed while trying to sell weapons and ammunition. Dangerous objects were seized, and the offender was detained at the crime scene.
“He is a resident of the Kyiv region, born in 1985, a participant in hostilities in the east of the country. It is likely that after demobilization he took with him weapons and ammunition, which he planned to sell in the capital. And this is a Kalashnikov assault rifle with cartridges for it, two RPG-26 grenade launchers, two F-1 hand grenades with fuses, two Scorpion submachine guns with two magazines, as well as 100 thousand hryvnia,” said the head of the capital’s headquarters.
After receiving the relevant decisions and permissions from the judges, law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches at the defendant’s place of residence. There, police found dozens more firearms and ammunition, the circulation of which is prohibited by law. The seized items were sent for examination.
