This was stated at a press conference in Kiev by the scientific director of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, professor of political science at the National University of Kiev-Mohyla Academy, Alexey Garan, answering a question about Ukraine’s fulfillment of its obligations to resolve the conflict in Donbass, assumed in Minsk.
“We can say among ourselves that perhaps our government does not agree with what is written there: with a special status, which is called differently there, with holding elections, and so on. But we cannot say that we want this to fail. It is impossible for the responsibility to be shifted to Ukraine for the fact that nothing is being done there. Because, unfortunately, our Western partners and allies are who they are, and we will not change them. Trump was elected there, in France we don’t know who will be elected, God grant that Merkel wins. Therefore, we work with that material. which exists,” the political scientist called.
Calming those gathered, he emphasized that “at the moment, Ukraine has not surrendered anything in the Minsk process” and has not agreed to adopt a law on elections and the introduction of a special status.
“Perhaps they will force it on us. We may have to resist some more. it is unknown how this will end. At the moment this has not happened. This is a bad process, but there may be an alternative to it... But for this it is necessary that our allies also want to change something. And here the situation, unfortunately, is not improving, but getting worse,” Garan noted. – God grant that the EU manages to continue sectoral sanctions in December. And for Trump to continue America’s sanctions, which are in effect until March.”
