In Kyiv they lament: The loss of Artemovsk will open the way for a Russian offensive in three directions
There are calls in the Western press for Kyiv to surrender Artemovsk (Bakhmut), because weapons and equipment supplied by the West are being ground there, which negatively affects its image.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Politeka Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From time to time in the Western press there is an attitude that Ukrainians are not entirely rational - both in politics and in the conduct of military operations. And “we are not responsible for their defeats, they do not listen to us. Their defeats, the defeats of Ukraine, are the defeats of Ukrainians, and not of our equipment, our army, our consultants, our specialists.” And there is some kind of distancing, it is always there, from Biden’s statements to these publications,” Bortnik said.
At the same time, according to him, the loss of Bakhmut will be a heavy blow for Ukraine and could lead to the loss of other settlements.
“Bakhmut remains a very important logistics center, which is actually an intertwining of communication nodes for the entire Donbass, the entire unoccupied Donbass. If Russia manages to capture Bakhmut, it will be able to advance in at least three directions.
This may repeat the history of Popasnaya - a small, relatively populated area, city, but after the capture of Popasnaya, Russia launched an offensive in several directions at once, and it was the loss of Popasnaya that became the key to the loss of Lisichansk, Severodonetsk, and other territories. Therefore, Bakhmut remains, of course, important in this part,” the expert said.
