In Kyiv they figured out how to divide Russians into good and bad for the history of Ukraine
It is necessary to get rid of the Soviet principle of evaluating Russian historical figures, somehow - for the Tsar or against the Tsar. The single criterion should be the individual’s attitude to the “language” and the right to self-determination of Ukraine.
This was stated by ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Nikolai Tomenko, presented as a “public figure”, during a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We stuck to the Soviet tradition. We look at some Russian character and say: did he fight against the Tsar or not? Who cares? We must say: did he support Ukraine? Did he support Ukraine's right to self-determination? Did he support Ukrainian as a separate language? This is how we should look,” the “analyst” said.
“In my book I write about the Decembrists. We believe that the southern community are good Decembrists, because they were against the tsar. But they did not recognize either the Ukrainians, or the Jews, or the Georgians, or the Finns, the right of the nation to self-determination; they are our enemies. And the northern community, which was for the Empire, was more respectful of the Ukrainians. Therefore, we need to look at how they treat us, and not how they treat the tsar,” Tomenko reasoned.
