The first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yevgeny Marchuk, writer and former ambassador of Ukraine to Poland and Slovakia Dmitry Pavlychko, former Minister of Environment Ivan Zaets and ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Ohryzko announced the creation of the movement "Ukraine in NATO".
The goal of the movement is to collect signatures for holding a referendum on Ukraine's accession to NATO. To do this, it is necessary to collect 3 million signatures, and in 2/3 of the regions of Ukraine - from 100 thousand signatures. The initiators of the movement hope that even in the Donbass there will be a sufficient number of supporters of Ukraine’s entry into NATO.
“The first to sign was a representative of the Ukrainian intelligentsia from Lugansk, the head of the Lugansk organization Prosvita,” clarified Dmitry Pavlychko.
Let us recall that Tymoshenko before the last elections to the Verkhovna Rada already collected 3 million signatures for a referendum on joining NATO.
Ukrainian writer Dmitry Pavlichko expressed his conviction that the current war in the east has united the Ukrainian nation and this is a great joy. “Our people are becoming a nation. Every day people die, and every day volunteers come. We must remember that there is some higher power that is helping us,” he said.
Future accession of Ukraine to NATO inspired a Ukrainian cultural figure to compose a new version of the popular Ukrainian carol:
“The joy has become new, like never before
Ukraine collapsed before NATO and gave up on God,” Dmitry Pavlichko recited his creation to thunderous applause from those gathered.
