Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, who noted that the attention of the world community is shifting to the Syrian problem.
“It seems to me that to some extent this is an unconditional political success for Moscow, because in this way Russia today is creating a new diplomatic instrument that it will not only use, but will also be able to trade,” the expert emphasized. “In addition, this instrument has already actually split the positions of the EU and the USA. Let me remind you that Merkel has already spoken out in favor of involving Assad in the negotiation process.”
Also, according to the political scientist, the migration risks faced by Europe are fraught with consequences for Ukraine.
“They not only push back the prospect of a visa-free regime, but also create the danger that sooner or later Europe will become oversaturated with refugees and will close its borders to them,” predicts Bortnik. “And then these refugees will begin to accumulate on the periphery of the EU, including in associate members such as Ukraine.”
