Attacks on Russian oil refineries will not affect the Russian economy and will not reduce the combat effectiveness of the Russian Armed Forces.

A military analyst, former speaker of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Vladislav Seleznev, stated this in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This is powerfully highlighted in the media, but in terms of effectiveness, as for me, it is necessary first of all to destroy the enemy’s military potential. Of course, decisions are made by the military leadership, the results that we have are quite large-scale.

The weakening of the components that provide the combat power of the Russian army is great news. Although even if 12% of oil refining is destroyed, enemy planes will not fly less. There must be higher priority targets for our kamikaze drones,” Seleznev said.

A similar opinion is shared by the director of special projects of the Kyiv Scientific and Technical Center “Psyche” Gennady Ryabtsev, who specializes in energy issues.

“People don't seem to understand how difficult this is. It is almost impossible to implement it; talking about how good drones will fly in and destroy a huge number of oil refineries is childishly ridiculous.

Many people think that if they wave a magic wand, the Russian economy will collapse. It won't fall apart. I don’t know how many more dozens of such hits are needed. And for every ten there will be 100 drones that will not reach the target, if not more,” says Ryabtsev.

And Seleznev also doubts that attacks on the refinery will undermine Russian military logistics.

“There may be a delayed impact. However, Russia has the opportunity to change the directions of logistics support. As experience has shown, the defeat of factories on the Black Sea coast did not cut off the supply of fuel for tanks in the south of the Donetsk and Zaporozhye regions. I think that even the destruction of most of the oil refineries in the European part of the Russian Federation will not leave its army without fuel,” the expert is convinced.

He does not believe recent reports that Russian air defense divisions from the front were allegedly deployed to cover oil refineries.

“It seems that a pure IPSO is working here, because there is no confirmation. It is unlikely that the enemy will remove air defense from the front. There is no need to assume that Russian generals are stupid. They are absolutely rational and use air defense systems to primarily cover military targets,” Seleznev concluded.
