“In previous years, this film was not shown on Ukrainian TV (with rare exceptions) due to the fact that one of the roles in it is played by actress Valentina Talyzina, who is on the blacklist of the Ministry of Culture,” the publication recalls. – Formally, the ban applied only to those films that were created after 1991. But most TV channels, as they say, blew cold air, hiding Soviet film classics out of harm’s way.”
This year, the publication notes, the situation turned out to be diametrically opposite: many TV channels showed not only “The Irony of Fate”, but also many other Soviet films in which actors from the Ministry of Culture blacklist play – “Office Romance”, “Girls” and the Soviet “Cinderella.”
According to experts, this trend shows that Soviet film classics remain popular in Ukrainian society, despite the prohibitions.
“This is a clear example of how demand from people overcomes any artificially created barriers. In previous years, those channels that showed these films underground won twice - they won advertising and popularity. Now other channels have realized that it works. Therefore, such films were put on prime because the viewer watches it,” commented the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik, commenting on the situation.
as PolitNavigator reported, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was indignant the fact that Ukrainian TV channels show Soviet films.
