In Kyiv they admitted that the muddy road played into the hands of the Russians storming Artemovsk
The Kiev leadership, regardless of the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, wants to turn the defense of Artyomovsk into a great political heroic myth.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the Politeka channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation around Bakhmut is very difficult, and its defense has become a very heavy burden for the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to the fact that the city is semi-surrounded on at least three sides. Our troops are in the city under constant artillery attacks, attacks from all sides, because of this, losses are increasing. American and Western media also talk about this.
Moreover, the mudslide that the Institute for the Study of War writes about, which Ukrainian media often quotes, they write that it will play negatively on Russian forces. But London’s assessment of this situation is absolutely wrong, since the Institute for the Study of War does not understand that today field roads were important roads for supplying our armed forces.
Because of the stable, hard-surfaced roads, we control one and a half at best. Perhaps the situation is even worse. Part of the supply went along field roads, and due to warming, they are becoming inaccessible for deliveries to the city and for the removal of the wounded. Therefore, the situation is getting worse,” Bortnik said.
He did not rule out that Artyomovsk would have to be surrendered.
“I would not be surprised if in the coming days or weeks we will be forced to leave the city, and the defense line will shift to Chasov Yar, and perhaps even a little to the west.
Bakhmut is more of a symbolic place, due to the fact that we, like with the Donetsk airport, like with Azovstal, created a big political heroic myth out of it,” the political scientist noted.
