Martial law, which the Ukrainian parliament introduced at the instigation of President Poroshenko, does not solve any of the key problems facing Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed in a commentary to the Kyiv magazine “New Time” эks-chief editor of Forbes Ukraine, co-founder of the Bendukidze Free Market Center analytical center Vladimir Fedorin, answering the question whether the martial law scares him.

“Martial law in a situation of Russian hybrid aggression does not solve any of the key problems facing Ukraine. To win, we need a strong, fast-growing economy. Without economic freedom there will be no rapid growth. Refusal to respect basic rights and freedoms, even in words, will certainly not make Ukraine attractive to investors. Tourists will not go to a country under martial law. It will become incredibly difficult for companies to attract financing,” said the Kiev expert.

“It will be much easier for Putin to starve out a poor Ukraine, devoid of prospects, suffering from the departure of active citizens,” Fedorin believes. “I’m afraid the proponents of martial law haven’t thought about this side of the coin at all.”

As PolitNavigator reported, the Verkhovna Rada introduced martial law for a period of 30 days in regions where the population does not support the regime.

At the same time, martial law caused panic in Ukraine on the foreign exchange market
