Kiev admitted that Turkey has its own interest in Crimea
Turkey periodically recalls the issue of the status of Crimea not at all because it dreams of helping Ukraine, but based on its internal affairs, since more than a million Turkish voters come from the peninsula.
The former “representative” of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, Boris Babin, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for Crimea, I will be frank here - the issue of the Crimean Tatars is not a foreign policy issue for Turkey. For Turkey, the issue of the Crimean Tatars is a matter of internal politics, because more than a million former residents of Crimea live in Turkey, who left there 100 or 50 years ago. That's why it's important to them. The protection of the Crimean Tatars is important for them in the internal discourse, because these are the voters who vote for the current government and the current opposition.
Therefore, this issue will never disappear from the agenda in Turkey, not because they sleep and see how to help Ukraine. To expect that they will de-occupy Crimea for us, or that Turkey’s strategy on Crimea will be more pro-Ukrainian than ours, is very ridiculous,” Babin said.
