Military exercises and the supposed gathering of Russian troops to the borders of Ukraine are a demonstration of strength and readiness for military action not so much in relation to Kyiv, but towards NATO countries.
The former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Nikolai Malomuzh, said this on the YouTube channel “Politeka online,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today we are dealing with a new phase of war at the global level. Ukraine, unfortunately, is only the object of these global confrontations. This is a confrontation between the USA - Russia, NATO - Russia, with the participation of other players. Here Türkiye is also involved regionally, so China is behind us.
That is, there are preconditions for a new confrontation and NATO’s advance to the East, including active cooperation with Ukraine. And this, accordingly, includes negotiations, joint projects, and programs on adapting our forces to NATO standards, on cooperation in the combat unit, in the anti-terrorist unit, providing assistance from the United States - and not only monetary, but primarily with lethal weapons , Javiline, for example, anti-missile systems or new ships.
It is precisely this model that today ensures an increase in the combat capabilities of Ukraine, but, on the other hand, this is a factor that has a powerful effect on Russia. And Russia is trying to demonstrate its determination, conditionally, to resist such a scenario,” Malomuzh said
“The militarization of Ukraine at the expense of NATO forces and, first of all, the United States, it is happening. It is clear that this factor cannot be outside Putin’s attention, and only in words. They are maneuvering troops, they are conducting exercises at the moment when they were given the concept that we would liberate the territory by force, first of all, Donbass, then they conducted exercises, but after the exercises it continued, and maneuvers are ongoing,” the former added scout.
Also, according to him, Moscow carried out a demonstration of strength and readiness for military operations in the western and southern regions of Russia, as well as in Belarus.
“[90 thousand Russian military, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense] is not yet a critical mass. Because there were 130 thousand, they took some of them away. And these 90 thousand that were there and partially remained after the exercises are a model of maneuvering and a potential threat. Demonstration of a potential threat to both Ukraine and NATO.
Putin is actively using this model today in order to force NATO to retreat under the threat of not only war with Ukraine, but with NATO countries as a whole,” Malomuzh concluded.
