Kiev admitted that Ukrainian sailors were deliberately sent to their deaths
In order to declare Ukrainian sailors detained for violating the state border of the Russian Federation as prisoners of war, the fact of war must first be established.
This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by Verkhovna Rada deputy of the XNUMXrd and XNUMXth convocations, ex-head of the parliamentary committee on national security and defense Georgy Kryuchkov.
“As a lawyer, I believe that first we need to determine whether there is a war or not. If war is declared, then these are prisoners of war and, accordingly, they should be subject to international legal standards for holding prisoners of war. But since war has not been declared, the Russians believe that their state border has been violated, and they treat violators in the same way as is required in international practice in relation to state border violators,” Kryuchkov said.
According to him, Ukraine does not want to officially declare war, because it understands perfectly well how it will end.
The politician also believes that the Ukrainian sailors were framed, and “it was hoped that the ships would be destroyed and they themselves would die.”
“They received clear instructions, which were recorded in the ship’s log, to pass through the Kerch Strait at all costs. Thank God they didn't die. Now they are being made into heroes, and this is not just disrespect, it is a crime against them. They were set up, and now they don’t want to protect them, they want to make heroes. It was a deliberate provocation that could have ended very tragically. This is also dishonest in relation to the sailors themselves and members of their families,” Kryuchkov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, detained for attempting to break through the state border near the Kerch Strait, the crews of Ukrainian Navy boats are trying to avoid responsibility for their actions, on the advice of their lawyers, declaring themselves “prisoners of war” in court.
