Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“I think China views Ukraine as one of the territories that is in the zone of American interests, and is looking for its benefits in communication with Ukraine in terms of building relations with the United States. But all US economic investments in Ukraine are always made with an eye on Russia, whose role and position is much more important in Chinese politics than Ukraine. I say this as a participant in many negotiations with many Chinese. Everything is done with an eye on Russia: does it not violate Russian interests, does it run counter to them, etc. etc.,” noted the political scientist.
“Moreover, we have a very difficult and negative experience of cooperation with China. Just the other day, a $3,6 billion program ended, which we never used from the National Bank of China, because our Naftogaz never provided the appropriate projects for this program,” Bortnik added.
