In Kyiv they admitted: “Ukrainian paradise” will not help – “they hate us in the LDPR”
The idea of creating a “showcase of Ukrainian paradise” in the Donbass territories controlled by Kyiv is absolutely unworkable - the residents of the LDPR did not give up their choice even in the midst of hostilities. What can we say about the current times, when Russia is providing assistance to Donetsk and Lugansk.
In fact, Stanislav Aseev, a Ukrainian journalist convicted in the DPR for espionage who was transferred to the Ukrainian side as part of an exchange, came to this conclusion at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the idea that we will create an economic paradise for ourselves in the territory under our control, and these people (residents of the DPR and LPR - ed.) everyone will see this and understand, this is generally a complete illusion, which I very often talk about using the example of 2014.
In 2014, there wasn’t even any bread on the shelves of supermarkets in Makeyevka and Donetsk. That is, people stood in huge queues, spending a day to cross the demarcation line to buy sausage or a pension. And they, of course, saw that people living in the controlled territory were living much better - that was 2014. Now this trait is not so sensitive in 2021.
In 2014-2015, it was clear that this was heaven and earth. But when they returned from there, do you know what happened? They hated Ukraine even more because the logic of those people who support the Russian Federation and the so-called republics is completely twisted. They believe that, yes, they live worse, much worse, than people in the controlled territory, but it is not they, not the Russian Federation, but Ukraine who are to blame for this. That is, it had the opposite effect,” Aseev said.
