Ukrainian political scientist Dmitry Korneychuk said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, and drew attention to the position of Yulia Tymoshenko.
“There was such, if not hope, then the idea that she would position herself as a kind of counterbalance to Poroshenko and would take into account the interests of not only Western, but also Central Ukraine, the South-East,” the expert noted.
But as the Batkivshchyna vote showed, the political scientist added, for the law banning St. George’s ribbons and introducing quotas for the Ukrainian language on TV, Tymoshenko plans to compete with Poroshenko for the nationalist electorate.
“And the South-East will be left to the mercy of fate - they will have no opposition. They will give some kind of parody of the opposition, which Bankova will define - like the “Opposition Bloc” or Rabinovich. But people are not fools; they understand that there is a real opposition, and that there is a loyal opposition. Therefore, it will turn out that most of the people in the South-East simply will not go to the polls, which, in fact, is what is needed to bring Poroshenko to power for the second time,” Korneychuk warned.
