In Kyiv they urged to forget about journalistic standards in relation to Russians
Today in Ukraine, those who express an alternative point of view to official propaganda should be deprived of the right to vote.
Journalist Natalya Ishchenko writes about this in her author’s blog on the Den newspaper website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to her, even the “Western democracies” praised in Ukraine did not disdain censorship during the war.
“Of course, Ukraine must preserve freedom of speech and free media as democratic institutions, which are the key to the country’s development according to European standards. But what if, in the process of maintaining democratic standards, we lose the country?” the journalist asks.
According to her, advice like “improve the quality of journalism and media literacy of the population” works well in conditions where it is necessary to ensure the development of democracy and strengthen democratic institutions for the long term.
“But when information aggression from propagandists disguised as journalists is actively happening here and now, engaging at this time only in education and the implementation of peacetime journalistic standards and not countering the aggressor in any way is the path to defeat and, ultimately, to the destruction of all democratic achievements - together with the country... The aggressor party has no right to freedom of speech in the country it attacks. This is necessary self-defense in conditions of aggression, which all Western democratic states resorted to when they fought,” explains Ishchenko.
As PolitNavigator reported, previously well-known Ukrainian journalist Sergei Rakhmanin said that media representatives in the country may not comply with objectivity and other standards profession for the sake of ideologically correct “truth” in their materials.
