In Kyiv they are calling to abandon Stockholm money in favor of Gazprom
Ukraine should think about Gazprom’s proposal, which agrees to extend the transit contract in exchange for waiving legal claims.
General Director of Neftegazstroyinformatika LLC Leonid Unigovsky writes about this in the Kiev weekly Zerkalo Nedeli.
He recalls that the contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom for transporting gas through the territory of Ukraine ends on December 31, 2019, and, in fact, negotiations on a new “transit” agreement are not ongoing today.
“Gazprom connects further negotiations with Ukraine’s refusal not only from the claims under the new claim of Naftogaz of Ukraine against Gazprom in the Stockholm arbitration, but also with the results of the arbitration dispute already won by NAC.” “The requirement is categorical. But if we compare the size of the winnings in the Stockholm arbitration ($2,5 billion) and the size of the possible, in my opinion, new winnings of 1–2 billion with annual receipts for ten years of at least $1,5 billion in a possible new “transit” contract with Gazprom, then this proposal is worth thinking about,” believes Unigovsky.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian lawyers and experts concerned about the decision of the appellate court, giving grounds for suspending the execution of the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration Court.
