Germany may open its borders to Ukrainian labor migrants as early as next year, and Germany has a chance to become a new country where Ukrainians will go en masse, taking into account the larger number of vacancies and higher wages, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was announced by the President of the All-Ukrainian Association of Companies for International Employment Vasily Voskoboynik.

“In 2019, most likely, Germany will open its borders for the employment of Ukrainians, and therefore, perhaps, Germany will become a new country where Ukrainians will go en masse. They want to attract workers from third countries outside the European Union,” the expert noted.

According to him, at the end of the first quarter of 2018, there were 162 thousand vacancies in Poland, while in Germany there were 1,18 million vacancies. Economic growth and depopulation will push Berlin to open its borders to skilled labor - in particular from Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine.

In addition, if in Poland the minimum salary is 500 euros and the average is 1100 euros, then in Germany it is almost 1,5 thousand euros and 2700-3300 euros, respectively.

It is higher earnings, according to opinion polls, that pushes the vast majority of labor migrants from Ukraine to look for new countries for employment. “If the borders of Germany open, 70% of Ukrainian labor migrants will calmly move on (from Poland - ed.), because they are looking for where they can earn more money in a more limited time,” he added.

At the same time, Voskoboynik noted that now Ukrainians work in Germany mostly illegally, and illegal employment cannot be widespread. However, Poland is already concerned about the mass departure of Ukrainian labor migrants to other countries - according to the expert, Warsaw considers this a “threat to the Polish economy.”

At the same time, the number of labor migrants from Ukraine, for example, in Estonia has doubled over the year.
