In Kyiv it’s easier to buy an AK than a carton of milk
The SBU should monitor members of former volunteer battalions for the distribution of illegal weapons.
Political expert, candidate of historical sciences Valentin Gaidai stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In connection with the conflict in Donbass, we have many people who brought weapons from there illegally. All these events, of course, put pressure on the psyche. There may have been some negative consequences. After all, this is a war, and we must understand that even if it is in such an amorphous state as the last three years, there were real military operations before that. That's why we have a lot of people with mental disorders. In addition to this, he also carries weapons. There were situations when they were detained with illegal weapons, and there were attacks on police officers in the same Dnieper, there was the murder of two cops in the Dnieper,” the expert recalled.
He emphasized that the uncontrolled market for illegal weapons is oversaturated in Ukraine.
“Sometimes you can buy a Kalashnikov assault rifle from us faster than a carton of milk. This is also no secret. Therefore, naturally, the competent authorities, the SBU, for example, or the police should work more effectively to identify these arsenals of illegal weapons, monitor those who return from the ATO, especially if this concerns former volunteer battalions, for example. It’s no secret that the segment of illegal weapons is larger among volunteer battalions than among those who served urgently,” Gaidai said.
