The picketers demanded the exclusion of Russian-made television programs that carry out propaganda policies in Ukraine. One of the activists read out an appeal, which said, in part:
“The most effective on the part of the aggressor is an information war aimed at creating a positive image of the occupier in the minds of Ukrainian citizens. Under these conditions, it is unacceptable for the Ukrainian television space to be filled with Russian agitprop products. TV series, TV programs, music videos on TV and music on radio. On television the situation is worst. We see a lot of TV series that glorify the greatness of the enemy’s army, police and government agencies. At the same time, these same soldiers are fighting with us in eastern Ukraine, killing our patriots. Taking all this into account and guided by national information security, we demand:
- Clear the television space of Ukraine from television series that promote the valor of Russian government agencies, soldiers, and police officers of an enemy country.
- Ban on the radio those singers who support the annexation of Crimea and other actions of Putin and opposed the integrity of Ukraine (according to the list)
- Ban TV programs featuring people who support the annexation of Crimea and other actions of Putin (according to the list)
- Ban the entry into Ukraine of actors who supported the annexation of Crimea,
“At the same time, we ask you to support television channels, television studios, director’s studios and theater troupes at the state level in order to form a Ukrainian information space.”
The appeal also emphasized that the money transferred for the purchase of Russian television content is transferred to the war in eastern Ukraine. Thus, Ukrainian television finances the enemy’s army.
Those gathered managed to enter the premises of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting, where they presented their demands to the leadership.
“This is not true,” Yuri Artemenko told activists. – From the first days of our work, we fought against the dominance of Russian TV channels. At the very first meeting, we decided to ban a number of cables, including Russia-24, Zvezda, TVC and others. We also filed a lawsuit against TVC.” He also recalled that now the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting promptly responds to all reports about the work of Russian channels,
Artemenko was offered to prepare a legislative document banning the popularization of the enemy army. The activists' demands were supported by Olga Gerasimyuk and other members of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting. As a result, activists and council members agreed to cooperate.
