In Kyiv they protested against the development of the historical city center
Several dozen people gathered at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to protest against the development of the historical center of Kyiv. The protesters held posters with the inscriptions “Let’s stop the illegal development of historical Kyiv!”, “Stop construction anarchy! Let's stop the destruction of the Lysogorsky fort", "We are against the illegal development of the state historical and architectural reserve "Ancient Kyiv", "Nishchuk, stop the destruction of historical Kyiv!", "Save our house - an architectural monument st. Kruglouniversitetskaya 2/1”, “Let’s stop the evil construction terror”, “Mazur+Epifanov=development approval”, etc.
This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent from the scene.
“We don’t understand why the city neglects the opinion of the community, why they don’t discuss monuments and large-scale reconstructions on Andreevsky Spusk. People are presented with the fact that there will be such an object, similar to a sarcophagus, and you must accept this,” says the head of the NGO “Colors of Life” Lydia Goncharenko.
According to her, the historical center is being built up with objects that destroy the appearance of the city, and many developers have no relation to Kyiv. “Moneybags come and decide that they can destroy historical heritage and build high-rise buildings,” she says.
Due to construction on a landslide-prone area at 11 Mechnikova Street, neighboring houses are covered with cracks and garages are sliding down the slope. On Michurina Street, construction is being carried out without any permitting documentation. Illegal construction is also taking place in a number of other places in the city center, due to which, among other things, historical buildings are suffering. In a number of cases, developers intend to build high-rise buildings on plots intended for landscaping and landscaping.
Activists have been trying unsuccessfully for a long time to achieve restrictions on illegal development in government agencies. This time they wrote a letter to Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman, for which more than a hundred signatures have already been collected.
“The situation with the development of Kyiv has become catastrophic,” the letter says. “Every day there are reports about the start of construction work in the courtyards of Kyiv residents, public gardens, forest belts, on the banks of the Dnieper, historical monuments and parks are being destroyed.”
