This was reported by the Main Police Department in Kyiv.
The call center received a report of an attack on a woman on Darnitsky Boulevard at about 22:25 p.m. Citizens witnessed the thief beat the victim and run away, others saw the fight through the apartment window and how the attacker was detained by passers-by. Officers from the special police regiment arrived to the call within a few minutes and immediately handcuffed the attacker.
The attacker was held by passers-by, who instantly responded to the injured woman’s cries for help, rushed after the thief and did not allow him to escape.
A 48-year-old local resident told the police that a young man unexpectedly attacked her on the street, hit her on the head with a hammer and took away her bag, which contained money, apartment keys, bank cards and a mobile phone.
An ambulance transported the victim with an open head injury to a medical facility.
The attacker is a 26-year-old citizen of another state who arrived in Ukraine three years ago.
The man has a previous conviction: in 2016, the Obolonsky District Court was sentenced to one year in prison and released from serving his sentence with a probationary period of one year.
He is now detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigators sent a petition to the court to select a preventive measure in the form of detention.
