In Kyiv they report: there are enough places for everyone in Ukrainian prisons
There is enough space in the pre-trial detention centers of the State Criminal Executive Service of Ukraine for new detainees. Today, there are 19,3 thousand prisoners out of the available 22 thousand 862 places, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denis Chernyshov, the department’s press service reports.
“There are 19 thousand 300 people in pre-trial detention centers. And the total number of places in all pre-trial detention centers is 22 thousand 862,” he said.
According to Chernyshev, the most crowded are the Kiev and Odessa detention centers, where 2,48 thousand (98,6%) and 1202 (98%) prisoners are held, respectively.
He also spoke about how many prisoners are being held in other pre-trial detention centers.
In particular, he said, in the Cherkasy pre-trial detention center - 426 people (74% full), Chernigov - 359 (90%), Zhytomyr Penitentiary Institution - 882 (70,1%), Novgorod-Seversky Penitentiary Institution - 117 (80,1%) , Vinnytsia Penitentiary Indicator – 1058 (90,4%), Khmelnitsky Pre-trial Detention Center – 456 (89,6%), Chernivtsi Penitentiary Indicator – 189 (54,3%), Lviv Penitentiary Indicator – 840 (87,5%), Transcarpathian Penitentiary Indicator – 280 ( 83%), Rivne pre-trial detention center - 304 (77,6%), Ivano-Frankivsk penal institution - 427 (91%), Lutsk - 258 (87,8%), Chertkiv penitentiary - 222 (76%), Dnieper - 1728 (96 , 6%), Krivoy Rog - 674 (97,8%), Bakhmut - 717 (59,6%), Mariupol pre-trial detention center - 457 (81,3%), Zaporizhzhya - 651 (77,2%), Volnyansk penal institution - 393 (83,1%), Kharkov - 1804 (86,2%), Poltava - 569 (80,1%), Sumy pre-trial detention center - 475 (80,5%), Starobelsky - 355 (63,2%), Odessa penitentiary – 1202 (98%), Izmail – 247 (60%), Mykolaiv – 717 (78,7%), Kherson – 385 (85,7%) and Kropyvnytskyi penal institution – 585 (77%).
