In Kyiv they told how Ukrainian sailors are extorting bribes of hundreds of dollars.
Ukrainian officials demand a bribe of $500 from sailors in order to issue them documents confirming their experience and qualifications.
Nikolai Melnik, an expert from the Leviathan analytical group, stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Formally, the state has given sailors the opportunity not to take the new tests, but you automatically submit your documents and receive confirmation of your qualifications. But the category of intermediaries has not gone away.
Just a few weeks ago, my friend went to MorRechService, he needed proof of experience. As soon as he started submitting documents, this gray-haired, well-fed grandfather came up to him and explained that it would cost $500, and your experience would be counted,” he said.
In addition, the analyst noted that corrupt officials bought activists who fought for the rights of sailors.
“Previously, there was a group of activists around this story who said: “Everything is bad, corruption is everywhere.” They were absolutely right, but as soon as the chaos begins, these wonderful activists get a place in MorRechService, and no longer see either intermediaries or corruption.
The problem is not even that there are certain officials who are satisfied with the current situation, but that the activists who advocated for the rights of sailors have now calmly integrated into this scheme,” Melnik concluded.
