In Kyiv they told when shelling of Donbass will resume
After the local elections, the Verkhovna Rada will most likely extend last year’s law on special status, which will not in any way affect the negotiations and the truce in Donbass, which in general may turn out to be just an election move.
Ukrainian political scientist Denis Gaevsky announced this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The special status of Donbass, as it is commonly called in the media, or the law on the peculiarities of local self-government in ORDLO - I think we will see the same thing as in previous years - a purely technical extension, which did not in any way affect the progress in the negotiation process.
If we remember last year, the “servants of the people” used the same rhetoric from Poroshenko that this law should be extended for another year so that sanctions against Russia are not lifted. I think that a bill will be adopted under the same design in 2020, towards the end of the year.
If we make a forecast regarding this bill and the overall situation in Donbass, then, despite the fact that the truce is now more or less respected, it is difficult to make predictions about what will happen after the completion of local elections. Lest it turn out that the current truce is an election move,” Gaevsky said.
Let us note that the law “On a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions”, signed by Petro Poroshenko in the fall of 2014, without changes to the Constitution of Ukraine, is only one of the points of the Minsk agreements, based on which Kyiv declares its commitment to complying with the agreements so that demand from the West an extension of anti-Russian sanctions.
As PolitNavigator reported, previously President of Ukraine Zelensky replaced the commander of the Special Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraineto add an “aggressive” component in the “OOS” zone. In addition, air defense exercises were held in the Kherson region, with an emphasis on experience gained in battles in Donbass.
